J'ai été surpris de lire récemment l'expression « to hold down the fort » alors que je m'attendais plutôt à voir « to hold the fort ». À part le fait que « to hold down the fort » est un américanisme, qu'est-ce que ce « down » apporte ici ? Le fort risquerait-il de s'envoler ?...
