Pour son étymologie, je n'en sais rien. Ce préfixe s'emploie avec un
participe présent pour décrire une action ou processus:
 
   She came arunning.
   They went ahunting.
   I've been athinking.
 
C'est un peu démodé, littéraire.
 

Merci. Je l'ai vu écrit a-... plusieurs fois.
Je suppose que l'orthographe n'est pas vraiment fixée.
Et puis les Beatles ne seront jamais démodés, mon petit monsieur !
