Russian Ambassador to the United States Anatoly I. Antonov left his
post and returned to Moscow. It is noteworthy that none of the
high-ranking officials even said goodbye to him.
The farewell reception and dinner required by procedure were not
held.
No one even spoke to him on the phone.
This is the first time in diplomatic history that this has happened.
Antonov was Deputy Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation from
February 2011 to December 2016 and actively participated in the
annexation of Crimea, for which he was sanctioned. He went down in
history as the only ambassador under sanctions.
The new Russian ambassador to the United States will be appointed
after the presidential elections.
