Flying direct to Kennedy compared to 2 layovers on the way to Newark for only $4 more is insane. But then, so is the entire airline industry. I had an emergency a few years back where I had to fly from Vancouver to Boston. I paid $675. The guy sitting next to me paid $96. Go figure.
Yikes! Did he book well ahead of time? There used to be a website where you could find a cheaper flight by getting off at the layover stop (your actual destination) and skipping the last leg of the flight. I think the airlines weren't fond of this, and petitioned to have it removed.
