A number of factors contributed to Germany's downfall in the east. Underestimating the ferocity of the Russian soldier, poor military leadership on Hitler's part, not preparing his armies for a winter campaign (He invaded June 22nd thinking Germany would win a 10 week war, never providing his troops with the winter gear needed.) Other factors also contributed but those didn't include American and Canadian forces until the war was already lost by June 1944
