Sad... I had an acquaintance who worked for skype researching novel ways to compress sound.
When they were acquired by microsoft, the Seattle boys called the shots, and they rejected his research in favour of something Microsoft developed that was very shitty.
He got angry, quit, and started to work at Google a couple of weeks later. They very much enjoyed his research on audio compression, and he is still there.
