"The 1952 steel strike, which led to the Youngstown Sheet & Tube Co.
v. Sawyer case, was a major event in American history involving
President Truman and the steel industry. Truman, citing national
security during the Korean War, ordered the seizure of the steel mills
to prevent a strike that would have disrupted vital war production.
However, the Supreme Court ultimately ruled that Truman's action was
unconstitutional, limiting the president's power to seize private
property without congressional authorization. "
