 I can see using it when my SO travels on business.  She drives through a few long stretches with nothing but rocks, lakes and Christmas trees. Nice to know she arrives okay (she usually texts) so the absence of an automated check-in would get me in gear.

Yes, I can see that, but also it could induce anxiety in those prone to it. Journeys can be delayed for all sorts of reasons. I'm not sure I'd want to tell my SO of this functionality as she'll want me to use it all the time...

A few years ago she had a car accident.  Thankfully no injuries (other than pride - she was looking to the side at something along the highway). She called me.  But could have been a case where she would not be able to call me... I drove out to pick her up.
