The ramifications of this as a developmental discipline is to have V&V of new technologies *prior* to them being sold, to make sure that they're actually work, reliably, in real world fielded applications. A concrete example of this is *not* adopting a folding display screen that then subsequently fails/degrades in the hands of customers.
