 Apple's solution wouldn't have resulted in any additional loss of privacy
plus it only affected customers of icloud. Don't like it? Don't use icloud.
Simple.
 

It's amazing how many people don't understand that private companies aren't constrained to avoid violating one's rights in the way that governments are.
If Apple had thought it was a good idea to implement its on-device CSAM checking system, that would have been their prerogative, and the remedy that anyone who didn't like would have had would have been...
...not accepting Apple's services!
