Maybe when the SIM was replaced the iMessage function was disabled. Check
under Settings / Messages / iMessage toggled on.
New info: apparently it only affects messages to me and my wife. For
everyone else imessage works just fine for this family member.
imessage works just fine for me with everyone apart from this person.
What gives?
Maybe your wife’s iMessage setting has changed. Make sure she’s signed into
iCloud and that setting is toggled.
