Is it really such a hardship to just type a few letters of their name?
the suggested list can also be partially controlled. If you click on a name once and hold, you will get a popup asking if you want the phone to
suggest less. Just a single tap places that person in the "to" option of message, email you want to send, and keeps them in the list.
