As you're likely already well aware, Apple was forced (almost at gunpoint)
in iOS 17.4 to be customer friendly for once, by allowing its loyal EU
customers the choice of web browsers NOT to be webkit based alone... But in the upcoming iOS 18.2 Apple will follow more EU-related requests!
In iOS 18.2, Apple will allow 3rd-party browsers (for customers in the EU)
to create web apps for the iOS Home Screen using their own custom engines.
The change follows Apple's reversal of an earlier decision to remove web
app support entirely from EU devices which was a move that prompted
scrutiny from the European Commission. However, despite Apple announcing support for alternative browser engines
like Chrome's Blink and Firefox's Gecko in January, as of today, these
non-webkit web browsers have yet to appear on Apple's iOS app store.
