I want past conversations available for reference.  My memory isn't
what it used to be.  The only conversations I manually delete are
ones  I know will never be needed again like appointment
confirmations, two  factor PINS, spam, etc.

Exactly this. I only keep the important ones. I wished there was a
way to organize in archiving like e-mails like put them in KEEP
folders.

My question was to the original poster as to why they delete messages
from people they trust enough to share their location with.  It seems
you save messages from trusted people.
