Previously when using the Calculator on iOS, I could perform
minus and plus calculations without using the = button. A
[running total] would display after each +/- use.

2365.23 + 1254.58 + [3619.81] 235.96 - [3855.77] 1479.99 =
2375.78
Now I must use the = button after every calculation to see
the [running total]. It's hard to keep a checkbook register
correct if you can't see the running total. Hitting the =
button after every number is cumbersome when you're running
through several pages. The calculators on my desktop
computer and on the internet work as expected.
Does anyone else see this? I looked for any options on the
application itself and in Settings to change this but to no
avail.

It's a bug and it's been fixed in 18.3

This new calculator really sucks and is unusable! Where is the
C (clear) button?

Notice the <backspace> symbol.

That's the clear key. True you have to hit backspace as many
times as you typed characters.

What you describe with the link is not the issue I’m having. I
upgraded to 18.3 last night and the behavior continues. And there
is still no C button.

You're being a little limited with the truth.

What your screenshot shows is the view while typing a sum. The
backspace key allows you to correct typos. If you press and hold the
backspace button it clears the screen.
I was unaware you had to HOLD the backspace button for the screen to
clear. That makes it a little better.
However the original problem still remains. I cannot get a running
total just by pressing the + or - button. I must use the = button to
see the total of the running calculation. This is different behavior
than the previous calculator, which even had a log available to see
previous calculations. As I said, i primarily use the calculator to
keep my checkbook register accurate and having to use the = button
after each number is cumbersome, especially when all other calculators
work as expected.
Once you've hit "=" then the "AC" button appears.

This calculator is completely useless to me now.

Lol. That's quite an overreaction.

Hopefully I can find a
normal one on App Store.

Let us know how you get on.
I ended up downloading Calculator% which seems to work just fine and as
expected. The iOS Calculator icon has gone into the folder of uuused
Apple apps on my phone.
That's good feedback. I have the same issue as you and will give the app you found a try.
BTW, I don't possibly see how this could be considered a "bug". They obviously made a design change to the way the app works and probably didn't count on this reaction. There are many, many situations where a constant running total is helpful.
