The US Electoral College is one of those peculiar concepts carved into
our Constitution by Founding Fathers who could not agree on a damn
thing. Some were concerned that the great unwashed populace was just too
stupid to elect a president. So to get the thing ratified, they made
compromises, some of which make little sense once the drugs wear off.
