Why do people from Europe pay so much attention to American politics?
Surely there are issues closer to home you should be bitching and
moaning about. Are you secretly jealous of us?

Because your politics affects us. Our greatest ally has suddenly
decided to stop being an ally and that is huge for us. Instead Trump
has decided to bully your friends and decides to impose 20% tariffs on
imports from the UK because he thinks we levy 20% Value Added Tax (VAT)
on US imports. Actually VAT is a sales tax on all purchases, whatever
their origin, even items produced within the UK. I might have thought
that maybe Trump just doesn't know what VAT is, but you have sales taxes
at city, state and federal levels, so are you levying those taxes
unfairly on all your imports?
Well Said Wilf. The Pendejo Administration is hellbent on turning the
clock back 100 or more years, to a time when oligarchs ran unchecked,
eventually plunging the economy into a decades-long Great Depression.
Oh, and there was this World War thingy they tried to teach us about in
school.
The US system of checks and balances is sure not perfect, but the lessons
we "learned" from the Depression, helped us develop some mechanisms to
prevent that kind of chaos from repeating. Until a perfect storm from the
Far Right arose again to fuck things up again.
To those of you outside the USA, please keep in mind that the majority of
us did NOT vote for that Fool. We are fighting back with what means we
have, and we hope to be allies with the World again some day.
I'm just hoping that your new president will let go of the reins of power in 4 years' time.
