Hi Adam,
You didn't do any of those things. The "madrid" component suggests
regional, but regional newsgroups shouldn't be named into an
international hierarchy like alt.*. The 2600 component suggests hacking.
About the 2600 component, I would also add that all-digit components should be avoided as, depending on the storage method used by a news server or client, they conflict with a possible article number 2600 in a parent newsgroup.
With alt.2600.madrid, it should not matter much as "alt" does not exist as a newsgroup itself, but in case ReK2 sends a newgroup control article in alt.es.*, it would matter.
alt.es is listed in the active list of ftp.isc.org and may have an article number 2600 stored in the /articles/alt/es/2600 file. In this configuration, alt.es.2600.madrid cannot be added because the path /articles/alt/es/2600/madrid cannot be created.
I would therefore suggest the use of another name.
