Hi Adam,
You didn't do any of those things. The "madrid" component suggests
regional, but regional newsgroups shouldn't be named into an
international hierarchy like alt.*. The 2600 component suggests hacking.
About the 2600 component, I would also add that all-digit components
should be avoided as, depending on the storage method used by a news
server or client, they conflict with a possible article number 2600 in a
parent newsgroup.
With alt.2600.madrid, it should not matter much as "alt" does not exist
as a newsgroup itself, but in case ReK2 sends a newgroup control article
in alt.es.*, it would matter.
alt.es is listed in the active list of ftp.isc.org and may have an
article number 2600 stored in the /articles/alt/es/2600 file. In this
configuration, alt.es.2600.madrid cannot be added because the path
/articles/alt/es/2600/madrid cannot be created.
I would therefore suggest the use of another name.
Thank you. i should have quoted from Russ Allbery's Readme about the
potential for problems to be created by all-numeric components, but
I got lazy.
