Hi Sirius,
Hello Julien,
I would like to be able to get a backlog from the groups using nntpget and a
date, so that I have some light reading until they start to fill up
naturally.
I would recommend the use of pullnews, which is more configurable and
probably more used than nntpget:

For the nntp.lore.kernel.org, I ended up using "suck" which permits me
using a filter to apply to the posts before it sends them onto inn2. Let's
just say that I got really irritated over the "no space after colon" error
messages and the worst offender by far is Microsoft Exchange/Outlook.
(Yes, they technically adhere to *email* RFCs but it is still a pain.)
Also, nntpget relies on the NEWNEWS command, which is not always enabled
on upstream news servers.
True, but I have not found another tool that allow me to specify "get all
the articles in this group as of this date". I _could_ request everything
and then let expire flush the old articles, but was thinking to be kind to
upstream and only request that which would not immediately be flushed by
expire.
