It would at least continue the trend of the last two *awful* choices as the Doctor. Danny Dyer (previously in the soap Eastenders) is a hopeless "actor" - everything role he plays is exactly the same, including when he hosted a silly game show. He's certainly got the "mental" part right though. :-\
Danny Dyer Angles for Doctor Who Lead:
I'd Be Alpha, Working Class and a Bit Mental
--------------------------------------------
With uncertainty over Billie Piper's role in Doctor Who,
Danny Dyer has thrown his hat into the ring.
The former EastEnders star said he would bring something
entirely different to the show if given the chance.
"It's such an iconic thing to do. It's almost, not on the
same level, like James Bond," Dyer said. "It's a character
that's loved by so many. Again, it gives you an
opportunity with Doctor Who, because of the nature of the
work, to bring something left-field, something a bit
mental, a bit stylised, which I love. I love the idea of
it."
Known for his no-nonsense, straight-talking persona, Dyer
believes he could offer a version of the Doctor unlike any
seen before.
"Well, he would be an incredibly working-class Doctor
Who," he laughed. "Yeah, maybe a bit alpha. What I do,
really. You've hired me for a reason, I don't think you'd
want me to come in and play Doctor Who, you know, really
posh."
Dyer also reflected on the show's history, pointing out a
lack of working-class representation in the title role.
"I don't think we've ever had a working-class Doctor Who,
have we? Well, Jodie Whittaker, she brought a bit of that
to it."
Christopher Eccleston would also like a word...
Despite never having been formally approached for the role,
Dyer said the prospect remains a serious consideration.
"I'll be honest, no one's ever approached me about it. But
I see things now and again, my odds have been slashed to
this, that and the other, it's definitely something I would
consider."
He also acknowledged the challenges that come with the part
in the most Danny Dyer way possible.
"I know it's hard work, and some of the dialogue he's got,
he's got big monologues, talking about s*** you don't
understand."
Well, he'd certainly be a contrast following Ncuti Gatwa.
