And when AI gets to the stage that it can reconstruct
missing Doctor Who episodes faithfully we probably won't be
around to see that either.

 
Actually some pretty good deepfake work is available already.
If someone was to layer that over the Ian Levine AI
reconstructions - which try to be very faithful to the
original scenes in terms of action and positioning , but
suffer from varying levels of poor facial animation and Mr
Benn style bodily movements, it could be sooner than you
think. (Levine's had over 90 of the missing episodes done now,
to varying levels of failure - can see it being "complete" by
summer if his begging bowl gets filled).

I've seen some of Levine's efforts, but they do leave a lot to
be desired... at the moment anyway. Obviously technology is
moving forward all the time so it will improve. Look what's
happened technology wise in the last twenty years to the
world... AI is everywhere, the world live on their smart-phones,
driver-less cars, and loads of other amazing advances. So I'm
sure the day will come when the missing "Doctor Who" episodes do
get reconstructed by AI and look [very much] like the real thing.

Whether I am here to see them though is another matter...
