That's just the day The Church chose to celebrate His birth.Yes, they just made it up as they went along... and ignored the biblical evidence for a spring birth, like the lambs in the field.

ever denied). It was chosen to align with the winter solstice,
when several other pagan(?) celebrations were taking place. The
rationale being that the non-Christians would see what the
Christians were doing, and out of curiosity take an interest in
it...with a possibility of conversions.
