have filters and killfiles, so if don't want to hear from
someone, use them.

Usenet got much more USE-able after Google got out of town. There's a lot less crap floating in the bowl these days, and I think there's a decent balance (or would be if someone would stop posting constant AI generated bullshirt).

 I am always wary of people who give themselves powers over what
other people can say, like moderators of online forums, who read
your messages first to see if they are acceptable or not. It
kind of goes against what Usenet was about.

The need for moderation was far greater once more people flooded the 'net. Back in the early days it was just people saying what they wanted and indeed censorship online was frowned upon. Oh how times have changed.

 Plus, a bit of online drama can be quite entertaining when
there's nothing on the TV.
