Normally the BBC are in your face with PR stuff about their
big shows. Not knowing what the situation with "Doctor Who"
is after S15/S2 - which premieres in five weeks time - just
enables the YouTube brigade to do their thing. We have no
right to know anything, but in 2025 it is strange that we
know so little about the show's future.
It's extremely rare for any business to announce what their
future plans are until they are ready to do so, which is
usually not long before the product / service is ready to
launch. If they did, every competitior out there would try to
get in earlier to get the customers. Plus, with constant
changes in the world, announced plans may well have to be
altered or cancelled, which then annoys the customers - Apple,
for example, learnt this the hard way by announcing their
wireless power mat ... which was delayed and then cancelled.
Occasionally you do get a brief report, for example "Call the
Midwife" being renewed for 2025 and 2026, but no other
information about it. Most shows only work on a basis of the
next season or two. Very few have commitments for more than
that.
Then of course there are the rumours that Disney isn't happy
and is waiting to see how well or not this new season does
before making any decision, which then means the BBC can't
make a decision / announcement. Just one more issue to add to
the pile of problams with the Disney agreement.
I'd be very surprised if the BBC didn't have some contingency
plans in place to cover every option... "Doctor Who" is one of
its biggest shows. I doubt the show is in complete limbo, I'd
like to think there is a plan B.
They probably do have a few options, but they can't announce anything until Disney decide what they're doing ... unless the BBC gets fed up with the wait and simply decides to tell Disney to "get lost" of course, then the BBC can announce whatever other option they've chosen.
This hamstringing of the BBC is of course yet another reason why going with Disney was a rather silly choice in the first place.
