 Wasn't there a Film Trilogy based on Books along those lines .... the Life IS really just a Computer Program running its course!!

I think the Book 6 you're thinking of is really a short story, "Young Zaphod Plays it Safe".  I've got the entire "Galaxy..." collection in one complied book, but it's still packed in a box somewhere that even after living here for 18 months I haven't unpacked....so I can't quickly go take a look.

There was a sort of sixth book, "The Salmon of Doubt", which is a posthumous
 collection which is 50% non fiction articles, and a second half that
 includes the unfinished draft of what was either going to be the third Dirk
 Gently novel or the sixth Hitchhikers book, depending on which way DNA was
 facing when he reworked it, and also the aforementioned "Young Zaphod" and
 another short story based on a sketch by DNA and Graham Chapman, "The
 Private Life of Genghis Khan", included because it features the HH
 character Wowbagger the Infinitely Prolonged.
In true HitchHiker Trilogy fashion, there is also a DNA estate-approved
 actual 6th novel, "And Another Thing," by Irish author Eoin Colfer. It's
 not bad, and it does its best to rescue the overall storyline from the
 bleak outlook of "Mostly Harmless." And it's quite amusing. But it's not
 "Adams at his best" amusing.
