 Yep, "Vera" ended. We saw the final episode a few weeks ago.
 The actresss has said she doesn't think they should do a spin-off or a prequel (young PC Vera), but what the show's makers decided to do is another question.
 They could, but are not going to, even simply continue the show without her character. It worked for "Taggart" for years after the death of the actor who played Jim Taggart - they didn't change the show's name, just continued with the rest of the cast.
 

.... and, in the series we've just been viewing, one of her previous DS's has come back as a DI.
They could continue with him like they did from "Morse" when D.I. Lewis continued .... before they, later, moved on to "Endeavour".
