Now-a-days there are plenty of options!!
Too many. Which is why TV shows nowadays need to be more about
telling a good story and keeping people engaged. If people get
bored halfway through a show, they'll just switch over to
something else, and if people really dislike a specific show,
they won't watch it again.
Viewer ratings are down everywhere because people have too many
options and they can dip-in and dip-out of TV shows to find
something that interests them.
These days most films even have a wiki, so I can read the plot and more
importantly the end, to see if I even want to watch it in the first
place. :)
