Hartnel is before my time, but I'm a Tom Baker (and Jon Pertwee) fan, and I have no problem with Ncuti Gatwa, or Jodie Whittaker, for that matter.  And the Timeless Child is just a plot device and very unlikely to be retconed.

Speaking as a fan for whom Hartnell was not before my time (though
 admittedly barely) I 100% concur.
I'm not particularly fond of the show leaning so heavily into unashamed
 fantasy
