Saw Wicked with my niece.  I thought it was pretty good if you like
that sort of thing (and I don't mind a musical new & then).  The
fact that the star made a public ass of herself recently didn't
stop a solid performance, and Glenda was quite good as well..  I
also liked that they didn't make the wheelchair using sister into
a saint.  I did feel that the music wasn't up to the Ashman/Menken
level with the exception of the closing number which had a real "A
Whole New World" feel and was excellent.  Be aware it ends on a
cliffhanger.

Anyone know if there were a post-credit scene?  My niece wasn't going to
indulge my penchant for sitting through the whole credit reel.

Planning to see it in 3D, mainly to patronize 3D.

I have pretty much given up on 3D -- I don't find it adds that much and
the extra glasses are still an annoyance.

FWIW, there is only one flight scene where I think 3D would add
something, though admittedly the long shots of the technicolor OZ
countryside are impressive and some depth might work there too.

I had a long-running debate with erstwhile poster 'obveeus' wherein I
predicted that 3D would persist.  Though I think he could legitimately
claim victory by now, I still have enough residual affection left over
from my delirious youth enchanted with 3D comic books.

(I think you're right that 3D adds little, but I can make a similar
argument that, for sheer storytelling, b&w is better than color.)

So you have seen the light, gotten the picture, accepted reality, and
finally stated the obvious. Sure took long enough. Now, if we could just
ditch hard drives and color and get back to silver nitrate, we’d make
movies great again.
Otoh, bear in mind that there *is* a lot of 3D-projection equipment still out there ...along with kids who'll wheedle parents into springing for those showings, which come at no extra production-cost for CGI cartoon movies.  So, never always say never...
