IIRC, neither clothing styles nor culinary recipes have any
protection. You can knock off the shape and material of a
Louis Vuitton handbag, but you'll be in trouble if you include
the 'LV' pattern, which is a trademark.
In the US, copyright requires some kind of new creation. A phone book's list of addresses and numbers can't be copyrighted. I've argued that the restoration of a movie to its original state can't be copyrighted, but I don't think there's been a definitive court ruling. A colorized version can be copyrighted.
