Yes, "Spaceballs" might become a trilogy.
Spaceballs 3 Rumor Hints at Exciting Sequel Update
After Part 2 Announcement
--------------------------------------------------
A new insider report reveals that Spaceballs 3 is already in
development at Amazon MGM Studios. With Spaceballs 2 still set
for a 2027 theatrical release, the early news hints at a larger
franchise expansion. If confirmed, it would mark a surprising
continuation of Mel Brooks' sci-fi parody universe nearly four
decades after the original.
Spaceballs 3 already in works at Amazon MGM Studios
Amazon MGM Studios is currently developing Spaceballs 3,
according to an insider post from MyTimeToShineHello on X
(formerly Twitter), who stated, "MGM already developing a
SPACEBALLS 3." The report surfaced on July 6, 2025, but Amazon
has not yet shared an update regarding the project.
This development follows earlier news about a Spaceballs sequel
featuring original cast members. Bill Pullman and Rick Moranis
are reportedly confirmed to reprise their roles as Lone Starr
and Dark Helmet (via Deadline). Keke Palmer and Lewis Pullman
have also joined the cast in undisclosed roles. Mel Brooks is
returning as Yogurt, the character he portrayed in the 1987
original film.
The upcoming installment is scheduled for theatrical release in
2027. The project is described as "A Non-Prequel Non-Reboot
Sequel Part Two but with Reboot Elements Franchise Expansion
Film."
Josh Greenbaum will direct the movie from a screenplay by Benji
Samit, Dan Hernandez, and Josh Gad. Gad will also star in the
film and serve as a producer alongside Brian Grazer, Ron Howard,
Jeb Brody, Greenbaum and Mel Brooks. Executive producers include
Kevin Salter, Adam Merims, Samit, and Hernandez.
The original Spaceballs, released in 1987 by MGM, was a sci-fi
parody inspired by movies like Star Wars and 2001: A Space
Odyssey. It stars Bill Pullman, Rick Moranis, Mel Brooks, John
Candy, and Daphne Zuniga. Despite its mixed critical reception,
the movie has gained a strong cult following over the years.
Rick Moranis's involvement in Spaceballs 2 marks a rare return to
acting, having largely stepped back from the industry since the
late 1990s. Bill Pullman, meanwhile, continues to work in
television and film, with upcoming roles in The Boroughs and
Famous. Keke Palmer is also set to appear in The Pickup, Good
Fortune, and I Love Boosters later in 2025.
