I would say that Foundation is *not* Space Opera. In fact it makes some
fun of Space Opera.

That's the first one, yes. Romance, noble deeds, high drama, low comedy,
space battles, & pie fights. IMHO, should have been a runaway hit, but
seems to have largely gone under the radar.
