I would have thought it was mostly (a) to ensure only citizens voted
and (b) that nobody attempted to vote twice (though in a recent
election there was a scandal concerning one group of immigrants who
professed not to speak English but were caught going from station to
station voting multiple times - we're talking about a team of about
20-30 individuals who were though to have voted 15-20 times each)

I would be very interested to know where this happened.

Richmond, BC, Canada
He wants to know, not hear a claim. Give him some evidence.
Google is your friend.
Can't find a claim of 'immigrants going station to station'.
That sounds like one of Trumps confabulations from the 2020
election in NH.
But I did find this.
https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/officials-investigating-alleged-vote-buying-in-vancouver-richmond-and-burnaby-1.4861216"Officials are investigating allegations of voter manipulation in Richmond, Burnaby and Vancouver, B.C. after messages from the Canada Wenzhou Friendship Society sent out on the social media app WeChat appeared to be offering money for voting in those three cities."
However, here's the followup, a few days later. Of course, it didn't
get into the nativist's stream.
https://vancouversun.com/news/local-news/richmond-rcmp-find-no-evidence-of-voter-fraud"Mounties in Richmond say they have found no evidence of any crime of voter fraud."
