Talking animals aren't SF?
I would call talking animals fantasy.
Lynn
I think you mean speculative fiction.
One of my early favorities was Freedy the talking pig books.
That must have ben in the later 1940s.
A bit before I read Destination Moon and the books featuring
King Arthur and Robin Hood.
Then of course we had all sorts of comic books featuring
talking animals and when TV came along talking cars, mules and
horses.
Myths and legends are full of wise animals and other non-hominids. So is SF with aliens and robots.
