I enjoyed this quite a bit as well. It explained a few things in the
Ancillary books, although it made we wonder how much of the antics of
the Translators in those were a exaggerated to promote a sense of
oddity and confusion in the humans.
I can't remember any details of the translators in the other Ancillary
books but my impression from Translation State is that they were so
alien and so powerful that they would not be aware of human thoughts or
motivations.
