In spite of all of these my favorite story set in London is Arthur C.
Clarke's _The Forgotten Enemy_. Probably the most depressing story I
have ever read though.

Probably not. Nothing was heard on the radio from tropical lands, so
odds are good that Sri Lanka was uninhabitable in the story too.
