Some years ago I wrote the following in regard to the 2018 BSFA Winner,
Embers of War by Gareth L. Powell:
"An awful lot happens in only about 300 pages. It was a brilliant piece
of writing; of well-polished craftmanship in plot and structure with
multiple first person viewpoints and short chapters to create and
maintain suspense (and attention?)."

I have enjoyed a re read just as much as the original. One of the first
person viewpoints is that of a sentient space battleship whose AI was
developed with human brain cells and another is from an alien race with
six limbs which each have twelve fingers, sensors in each palm which
operate as a face with each limb capable of acting as an arm or leg. so
it is fantasy masquerading as science fiction but a fascinating tale. I
am about to begin the second in the series, Fleet of Knives.

Powell is famous for an alternative history fantasy series, (Ack-ack
Macaque) in which I am not interested. Has anybody read any of his these
or his other novels?
