Dear all, Just finished two books, Software by Rudy Rucker and The Collected Stories of Vernor Vinge. Software I give a nice 3.5 out of 5. It felt a bit unpolished, but it is of course older. I enjoy the ideas, although it did feel a bit dated at times. He did leave some very interesting ideas to explore further, which I expect he will do in the sequel Wetware. The fact that the book was short and that the author is able to spin a nice story in under 1000 pages is also good! Many modern authors are not able to do this. The Collected Stories get a nice 3.5 out of 5 as well, however, some individual short stories I really enjoy and touch on 4.5 while others were quite bland. What I did like is that Vernor writes good libertarian science fiction, exploring libertarian themes without getting hamfisted or too political about it.
