When I was roughly 11 years old, I read my first two sf books for "older readers"[1], one of which was Silverberg's "Planet of Death"[2]. I probably read it 4-5 times that year.

[1] It was in that section of the school library.
[2] The other one being Lester del Rey's "Tunnel Through Time", which I learned many years later was probably written by Paul Fairman, working from Lester's outline and/or guidance.
