I am one of those who got this trilogy via SFBC negative-option billing.
Thirty years later I read and enjoyed it.
It should be noted that Leigh Brackett could and did write stories which were based on accurate description of the planets as we knew them then. She chose the reality to fit the story, not the story to fit the reality.
