Unfortunately they aren't so stable, what with being in LEO. But better
than nothing.
And, there is no backup for the current GPS system.

Well, there are Galileo and GLONASS. And they still teach C5 navigators
how to use the sextant although I don't know how many still remember it
from school.
My ex continues to use pilotage by road maps for cross-country flights....
