The Ministry for the Future by Kim Stanley Robinson is a sort of economic fantasy novel... it is the left wing equivalent of what Atlas Shrugged is for the right wing. It's interestingly convoluted and suffers from pretty much the same benefits and defects of Atlas Shrugged.... it has the deus ex machina, the inventions that come out of nowhere and solve problems, and like Atlas Shrugged it's based on a reasonable premise blown out of proportion and saved by perfect people.
I liked it. I'd recommend it. I think it would make a good double-feature with Atlas Shrugged. I can't take it very seriously, but then I can't take Atlas Shrugged very seriously either. They are both amusing and pleasant reads that shouldn't be treated as a guide for life any more than SiSL should be. --scott -- "C'est un Nagra. C'est suisse, et tres, tres precis."
