Right.
Not a prominent person, except possibly in histories of the temperance movement.
But useful as an example
And useful in more ways than one. Up here we tend to dump politicians who lose two elections, sometimes even one, and replace them with someone who is often worse. The temperance people in (I think) Dundee stuck with their guy.  All incumbents were in trouble in that election but I suspect that if they had run a new face, Churchill would have won.
It's good to have counterexamples to received "wisdom".

 

Our problems run much deeper than mere economics.

 My point is that just talking about the economics won't work. The last
decade or two are proof enough of that. The problem is much more
fundamental, and it needs to be identified and addressed.

But I believe that meantime it helps not to go bankrupt.   And talking about sane fiscal policy at lest brings these ideas into the ken of people who currently have no idea what sane fiscal policy looks like.
