When I read the title of your post, my mind was immediately drawn to _Brave
New World_[1]. However, it's not quite a fit, because the "taking on the
status quo" element is missing. Yeah, the Savage didn't fit in with the
status quo, but the powers that be didn't even bother to crush him like
a bug -- they just exiled him and that was, as they say, that.
