Hi Denizens and habitues,
I am currently reading this and have not yet finished it.
But usually I like Harry Turtledove and like some of his other fantasy this happens
in a world very different than our own but people remain the same.
The next volume is due out in 2026... 'Lightening Runes" is the title so far.
Now since I have not finished it I will point to a review by a competent
person.

bliss still hobbling but faster hobbling than ever...
Well the world that Turtledove conjures features talking animals, zombies, vampires, ancient Assyrian quasi-deities, wizards, venal policeman, salamanders
(used in place of nuclear weapons apparently), crooked and honorable lawyers.
The viewpoint character is a Private Investigator, Jack Mitchell, who is able to
pass for white, a veteran of the European theater who fought the Fylfot Boys,
while it was the Knights of Bushido in the Pacific theater. It took me a while
to finish as my powers of concentration seem to have been diminished in
the last few years. It was enjoyable over-all but the Good Guys may have
overdone good things and one may show up in the next book to make them
unhappy. And I will leave you with Lovecraft's advice, "Don't call up That which
you cannot put down."
