(Snip! of much besides the size of crew for the "Dutiful Passage")
On what basis do you belive that? The Dutiful Passage was a pod
carrier - which is really no different than a modern
container ship.
The economics (such as they are in science fiction) would seem
to favor just picking up and dropping off pods. Most of which
would be automated. Economics wouldn't favor large crews with
the attendant food, energy, and waste disposal requirements.
_Alliance of Equals_ names 25 individuals as members of the DP crew. One
might had been a replacement for another, which means the absolute
minimum is 24 (except their positions names looked a bit top heavy to
me). _Conflict of Honors_ names 11 individuals, but also states that
there were 48 crew members in all.
