That last is a confusing sentence and likely you would not be thought
of as Hispanic-American but the ICE is like insane.  They violate the law in
seizing any immigrant even those with US Green Cards and Permanent
Resident status.  They tossed a Canadian in jail for over 2 weeks.

That's weird - most Canadians who went to the US for extended periods
were seniors going to Palm Springs, CA or Phoenix or Tucson AZ.
(That was my grandparents years ago - they eventually came home
permanently to Canada when they got old enough that their medical
rates skyrocketed. There were several thousand Canadians in each of
these places)
That was then this is now. I'd be interested in hearing about the
Canadian you mention - was there a problem with his paperwork?
The subject is a Canadian actress who has a sideline in the "health and wellness" industry, being the co-founder of a company that makes a health drink.  Well, alleged health drink.
She had a three year work visa in the US, but it was revoked as the health drink contains hemp, a perfectly legal additive - I've had hemp beer in San Francisco.  But customs is quite paranoid about hemp and even horse mattresses containing a tiny amount of THC have been stopped at the border. As I recall one would have to smoke two horse mattresses to get high. Bird seed has been banned for similar reasons.
She attempted to enter the US with this visa and instead of being turned back and denied entry, which would be perfectly reasonable in context, was imprisoned for nearly two weeks in foul conditions.  And never charged with a crime.
She claims  that she asked the guards why she was being held and they replied that they didn't know.  I know, however. She was sent to a for-profit prison.  All hail the private sector!
Then there's the case of Johnny Noviello, lawful permanent resident of Florida for 40 years (he tried to get citizenship but he was a bit slow mentally and couldn't pass the test despite multiple tries).  He had a drug conviction and was arrested for deportation May 15.  Died in prison June 23.  He needed epilepsy and anti-seizure medications, an condition tied to oxygen deprivation at birth.  While in detention he had no communication at all with the outside, not his father, not  his lawyer, and nor was his doctor consulted.
Again, put him on a plane, accompanied by a marshal if required, total cost a couple of  thousand, deliver him to relatives in Montreal who were waiting for him.  Instead, pay for 39 days of detention in a prison which is already over capacity. And wind up looking like thugs.
At least the conditions in this federally run prison were better than in the Arizona case.
In the there ain't no justice department, the Father started the drug business out of his car dealership, selling oxy and hydromorphone. Johnny, who depended on his father, was brought in when daddy couldn't be at the shop.  Daddy, who is not mentally challenged, had no trouble passing the citizenship exams, and hence was not deported - though his crime was more serious - because he's now a good American citizen.  I suspect that a decent lawyer could have got Johnny off on diminished responsibility. He had no prior record of arrests.
Surprised you didn't run across these stories.  They got a certain amount of play in the Canadian media.
