What about Spock's Brain?

Nah. At least you can laugh at Spock’s brain. You can only cringe at the
empath.

I recall a question on one of these groups asking for the earliest
example of a Mary Sue fanfic in Trek.

Someone, possibly the late Dorothy Heydt, replied that there was one
in the actual show, namely The Empath!

Spock's Brain, feels to me like their attempt to do a Lost in Space
tribute episode, and it succeeds on those terms. The Empath was just
boring, and had (at least for me) the worst musical score of any
episode (on a Hammond organ?).
