Accpording to the rumor, whoever hired Kurtzman hated Star Trek and set
conditions that Kurtzman cannot be fired and it's cheaper to produce
additional seasons of trek shows than to cancel them.
But that sounds so otherworldly that I am really having trouble wrapping
my mind around it. Like, what kind of a person does that? And at what age?
And how could it possibly be cheaper to produce failure Star Trek shows
than spend the same amount of money and make the "best you can"?
It depends on various things.
For example, if the cast and crew were contracted for three years, but the show should be cancelled after two, then it can potentially work out more expensive to pay off all the contract cancellations than to simply make the show for another year.
Then there can be other things such as syndication contracts with other broadcasters, where the makers are signed up to make three years of episodes and breaking that contract can again be expensive.

It's just really confusing to me, all this.
With very few exceptions, I can't watch this anymore, myself. I do like
the Lower Decks though, even though I am not a fan of some of the humour
within. The vibe and look at least resemble what I like.
